Step 3 - Post-migration Steps (Scaffolding)

Prerequisites

  • You have completed all previous steps.
  • You have administrator access to Confluence Cloud
  • (warning) Your browser and its add-ons must allow third-party cookies for features on this page to work. Incognito mode and certain adblockers will disable third-party cookies.

Guide

  • Before it is fully functional, you will need to do a last simple conversion action to map those data together.
  • There are two methods to convert the Scaffolding macros to Cloud macros. You can choose between manual conversion and bulk conversion depending on the number of pages or spaces that are being migrated.
  • For manual conversion there are two ways to search for the pages with unmigrated Scaffolding macros:

1. Ensure permission is given to the right users

  1. In your Confluence instance, go to a space migrated to Cloud. Find the pages that contain Field macros.
  2. Ensure that both you and the "Scaffolding for Confluence" user (see below example)  have the Add page permission on the space

    Necessary space permission under

     Space Settings > Permission

Necessary space permission for Scaffolding user under

     Space Settings > Permission

  3. Ensure that the page that contains Scaffolding server macros (Field macros or Live template macros), or the source for a live template does not have any restrictions.

No page restrictions (Pencil button is available. Padlock button is not red coloured)

2. Converting the Scaffolding macros to Cloud macros

If you face any issues or errors during the single or bulk conversion, check out CopyKnown issues when migrating to Scaffolding Cloud for more information.

Bulk conversion of Scaffolding macros

The bulk conversion allows you to bulk convert the Scaffolding macro into Cloud macros through multiple pages and spaces.

  1. Go to Space Settings > click Convert Scaffolding Server Macro under Manage Space.
  2. The page will list down all the migrated Scaffolding macros, and the status of the pages will show "Unconverted".
  3. Click Bulk Convert to start the conversion process.

  4. Click Proceed on the window that appears.

Closing the tab while the bulk conversion is running will halt the process and may lead to potential data loss.

  5. The duration of the bulk conversion process is dependent on the number of pages.
  6. Click Confirm once the conversion has been completed successfully.

  7. The page will refresh and the status of the pages will show "Converted". You will see the All contents converted button grayed out indicating the bulk conversion was a success.

Reverting a converted page to unconverted using page history will not update the page conversion status in the space migration tool table.

Manual conversion of Scaffolding macros

The manual conversion requires you to go to each page of the migrated Scaffolding macro and manually click on the macros to convert them into Cloud macros.

Pages with Scaffolding field macros

  1. In the page view mode like below, you will see buttons like "Migrate Scaffolding macro".

    Page view mode

    1. If you edit the page, you will see the page's structure similar to what it looked like in the server environment. This is expected behavior.

      Page edit mode

  2. Click one of the buttons on the page, in the View Page mode. You only have to click one of them to trigger a page-wide migration. Clicking this button will do the following as a background task:
    1. Convert this page to use the New Editor.
    2. Migrate all Scaffolding macros on this page. Scaffolding structure will be converted from using Scaffolding Server macros to Scaffolding Cloud macros
    3. Map of all Scaffolding data (the form values) to this page.
  3. After some time, the page will be migrated to use Scaffolding Cloud macros. The Edit Content button now appears in Page View mode. Clicking it will allow you to insert values to the page. In Page edit mode, you will see the structure has been converted to the new Scaffolding Cloud Field Group macro. In Page History, you will see two or three new versions created for this conversion purpose.

Pages with Live template macros

  1. Depending on the type of template you have, you will see a warning banner in the Page view mode

    Page view mode

    1. If you Edit the page and edit the macro, you will see the Live template macro with limited function. This is expected behavior.

      Page edit mode

  2. Click the "Migrate Live template macro" Link in the View Page mode, inside the banner. You only have to click one of them to trigger a page-wide migration. Clicking this action task will do the following as a background task:
    1. Converted this page to using New Editor
    2. Find the underlying template used by this Live Template, and convert all the Scaffolding Server macros on that page to Scaffolding Cloud macros
    3. Mapped all of the Scaffolding data (the form values) to this page.
  3.  After some time, you will see the structure and data of this page. The Edit Content button now appears in Page View mode. Clicking it will allow you to insert values to the page. In Page edit mode, you will see the Live Template working, and the macro is now editable. In Page History, you will see two or three new versions created for this conversion purpose.
