How Do I Resolve LOGIN_MUST_USE_SECURITY_TOKEN Errors?

Answer:

When using the connector (or any software that makes requests to Salesforce.com on your behalf), if your JIRA server has not been configured into your organization's Trusted IP Range in Salesforce.com, then a security token is required.

A security token is an automatically generated key that you must add to the end of your password in order to log in to Salesforce from an untrusted network. For example, if your password is mypassword, and your security token is XXXXXXXXXX, then you must enter mypasswordXXXXXXXXXX to log in.

There are 2 main ways to resolve this:

1. Add the security token to your password

To obtain a security token, log into Salesforce:

  1. From your personal settings, enter "Reset" in the Quick Find box, then select Reset My Security Token.

  2. Click Reset Security Token.

This will send a new security token to your email.

Once obtained, simply add it to the end of your password when configuring the connection and it should resolve this problem.

2. Add your JIRA server to the Trusted IP Range

This way you will no longer require the security token to access Salesforce.com from JIRA.

To access this, you will need to log into Salesforce.com then click:

Your Name > Setup > Security Controls > Network Access

Then add a new entry for the IP address (or IP range) of your JIRA server.
